If for some reason you don’t like any of the current options in the premium hatchback space, there’s a new one coming next month. Yes, it is the Tata Altroz. Bookings for the car commenced earlier this month, and now we have a confirmed launch date. Tata Motors will reveal the price list on January 22, 2020. Deliveries for the hatchback, however, should only commence by mid-February 2020. If you want to reserve one, you can do so by depositing a minimum token amount of Rs 21,000 either online or at any authorised showroom.

At the time of launch, the Altroz will be available with two engine-transmission options – petrol-MT and diesel-MT. The former consists of a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol motor producing 85bhp/113Nm, whereas the latter comprises of a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel with 89bhp/200Nm on tap. A 5-speed manual unit will handle transmission duties for both power-plants. And yes, both powertrains will come with a BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) badge. Tata Motors is also working on introducing a dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine (with 100bhp/140Nm) at a later stage.

Tata Motors will offer the Altroz in four trim levels – XE, XM, XT and XZ. If you want a dual-tone paint, you will have to settle for the XZ (O) derivative. The standard list of features includes a flat-bottomed steering wheel, driver’s footrest, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, headlamp levelling and two driving modes. The fully-loaded versions will rope in gizmos like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system mated to a 6-speaker Harman-engineered sound system, auto AC, auto headlamps and wipers, LED DRLs and mood lighting.

The Altroz will also come with some customisation packages, which should help customers spec-up cars as they want. If you wish for more dope on the Altroz, click here. Rest assured, Tata will price the Altronz competitively enough to worry the competition. Speaking of which, it will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz and the Hyundai Elite i20.
