Saar: Built on a ladder-on-frame platform, it will be offered with a range of engine-transmission options.

You guys must have read multiple stories on spy shots and specs getting leaked for the new Suzuki Jimney. Well, Suzuki has tried to put an end to all that with a partial unveiling of the beloved Jimny. When we say partial, Suzuki’s global website has almost no information about it. But since we are nosy, we translated a lot of stuff from Suzuki’s Japanese website.

But before we get into the details, let’s take a moment to just drool over it. The compact dimensions, underpinned by a potent ladder-on-frame chassis are accompanied by a retro silhouette, upright stance and a whole lot of character. In short, we are just totally in love with it. Maruti Suzuki, are you listening?

As you can see in the picture above, the Suzuki Jimny will be available in two styles – the standard and the Sierra. In its home market, Suzuki will sell the standard Jimney in three variants – XG, XL and XC. All will be powered by a 660cc engine, which will be offered with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. All three variants will also get 4WD (four-wheel-drive) with a low-range gearbox. On the features front, the Suzuki Jimney will be available with LED headlamps, keyless push-button start, electrically operated ORVMs, cruise control and dual airbags.

The Suzuki Jimny Sierra, on the other hand, will be offered in two variants in Japan – JL and JC. Like the standard Jimny, all variants of the Jimny Sierra will be available with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic. Those gearboxes, however, will be coupled to a 1.5-litre engine, which should have more oomph to offer. Needless to say, 4WD will be on offer too. As far as equipment levels go, they should be identical to the standard Jimny. There are a couple of noticeable changes in terms of looks between the two Jimny models. The standard will be offered with up to 16-inch wheels, whereas the Jimney Sierra will only go as high as 15-inch. The other change includes the plastic cladding all-round the Jimny Sierra’s exterior, which gives it a more hunkered stance.

As far as exterior paint options go, the Suzuki Jimny will be offered with a range of single- and duel-tone ones. The shades Chiffon Ivory Metallic, Kinetic Yellow and Brisk Blue Metallic are available with or without a blacked-out roof.
