If the title left you baffled, don’t worry as the first few sentences will deliver the clarification. Back when Kia launched the Seltos in India, it held back prices for the range-topping automatic variants for some reason. Then, a week or so later it revealed them. The same mantra was followed with the Sonet. During the subcompact SUV’s launch event last week, Kia Motors India unveiled prices for fifteen out of the seventeen variants. And now, a week later, the remaining two have gained their prices. So, in essence, Kia’s completed the Sonet’s second launch phase. Here are the prices:

  • 1.5 Diesel-AT GTX+: Rs 12.89 Lakh
  • 1.0 Turbo-Petrol-DCT GTX+: Rs 12.89 Lakh

Kia fans would immediately tell you that both those variants fall under the GT Line trim family. Also, they jointly claim the title of Sonet’s range-topping derivatives. The diesel-fed one comes with a 1.5-litre mill that pumps out 113bhp/250Nm, whereas the other houses a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor with 118bhp/172Nm on tap. The former comes coupled to a 6-speed torque converter, and the latter gets a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).

Both variants pack all the bells and whistles in the Sonet’s portfolio. The list includes six airbags, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with UVO Connect, projector fog lamps, front and rear parking sensors, 16-inch alloy wheels and an electric sunroof. If all that doesn’t float your boat, the list of gizmos also includes automatic climate control, a 7-speaker Bose sound system, ventilated front seats, cruise control and an air purifier that also blocks away bacteria and viruses.

The Sonet is Kia’s answer to a wide range of subcompact SUVs. The list of rivals covers Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Honda WR-V and the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Even Nissan (Magnite) and Renault (Kiger) are readying their offerings to land in the hotly contested sub-4 metre space.
