Saar: Skoda also confirmed that it will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel mill with 239PS on tap.

The speculations revolving around certain aspects of the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq RS can stop. The Czech carmaker has now confirmed that the fastest iteration of its biggest SUV will make its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. That event will open its gates on October 4, 2018, so mark your calendars accordingly.

Very recently, the Kodiaq RS was at the ‘Green Hell’, which is otherwise famous by the name Nürburgring, getting itself pushed to the limit for final adjustments. It registered a lap time of 9 minutes and 29.84 seconds to claim the title of the fastest 7-seater SUV at the ‘ring. Considering that one lap is 20.8km long, that is by no means a slow car. Here’s the video of the record-setting lap:

Skoda has also confirmed that the Kodiaq RS will be powered by a 2.0-litre BiTDi diesel engine. The twin-turbocharged mill has 239PS of power, which is 1PS less than it produces in the Volkswagen Tiguan. Moreover, it is confirmed that the all-wheel-drive will in place to help put the grunt down on the road effectively. The company, however, did not mention anything about the transmission that the go-fast Kodiaq will get. It will be, in all probability, a 7-speed automatic. Not sure about those extremely red alloy wheels making into production, but a bit of zing to match the firepower never hurt anybody!

The Volkswagen-owned brand is also adamant that the engine in question is reserved for the RS. There’s also an SCR catalytic converter that further cleans the exhaust gases coming out of the four tailpipes. Other confirmed features onboard include Dynamic Chassis Control, which works its magic to control the body roll, and Driving Mode Select which, as the name suggests, will make the required changes to the engine, transmission and suspension based on which drive mode is engaged.

Skoda is likely to put the Kodiaq RS on sale in the European markets first, followed by Americas. We would love to see Skoda bring the Kodiaq RS to India. But since it won’t be a volume seller, it will come as a direct import. And we all know what that does to the ex-showroom prices.
