Earlier this week, Skoda released the prices of the Slavia 1.0 TSI variants. And now, we’ve got those for the 1.5 TSI derivatives. There are just two variants – Style MT and Style DSG. The former comes with a price tag of Rs 16.19 lakh, whereas the latter demands Rs 17.79 lakh. Both variants get the sunroof, an optional feature with the 1.0 TSI engine, as standard.

As you can see, the 1.5 TSI motor isn’t available in the entry-level Active trim level. The powerplant in question produces 35bhp/72Nm more oomph than the 1.0-litre TSI mill. That means with 148bhp/250Nm on tap, the Skoda Slavia becomes the most powerful sedan in its class. In fact, the now-axed Hyundai Elantra, which was in a segment above, had just 2bhp more but 58Nm less on offer from its naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine. As far as the mileage figures are concerned, the Slavia returns 18.72kmpl with the petrol-MT combo and 18.41kmpl with the petrol-DCT setup.

Like the 1.0 TSI motor, the 1.5 TSI engine has also been lifted from the Skoda Kushaq. That means the larger mill comes coupled with Active Cylinder Technology, which shuts down two out of the four cylinders under low load. As a result, the fuel economy improves. As standard, the 1.5 TSI engine comes coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, there’s also the option of a 7-speed DSG (Dual-Clutch Transmission).

The list of features includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED-powered headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and wireless mobile charging. The Slavia also offers an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-speaker sound system, connected-car technology and support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On the safety front, the sedan packs up to six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, Hill-Hold Control, a rear-view camera and ISOFIX anchorages, among other features.

The Skoda Slavia is a rival for the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Soon, Volkswagen will join the party with the Virtus. That will make its global premiere on March 8, 2022.
