As we line-up to enter the next financial year, carmakers are expected to announce price revisions for their respective models. Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has become one of the first to do just that. The British marque has announced that from April 1, 2019, the asking price for select models will be hiked by up to 4 per cent. The carmaker did not mention which models will come under this revision.

Here’s what Rohit Suri, who is the president and managing director at JLR India Ltd., said in an official statement about the upcoming price revision:

Jaguar Land Rover in India offers a portfolio of world class products that inspire and excite. This increase in price is purely inflationary and we are certain that the two global iconic brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, will continue to attract existing and new customers.

Even though the year 2018 was a challenging one for JLR on a global level, it grew by over 16 per cent in India. Last year, JLR India sold just shy of 4,600 units which were over 600 more than what it sold in the year 2017.

JLR India sells a range of models from its 27 authorised retailers spread across 25 cities. From the Jaguar brand, it sells XE, XF, XJ, F-Type and the F-Pace. The list of Land Rover models includes Discovery Sport, Discovery, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover.

While the prices for the Jaguar range of models vary between Rs 40.61 lakh and Rs 2.80 crore, the Land Rover models are priced from Rs 44.68 lakh to Rs 4 crore (all prices are ex-showroom India). In 2019, JLR India will focus on strengthening its roots and introducing new and refreshed models. To make its volume products more competitive in India, JLR will also be investing to make more stuff locally.
