Are you still drooling over all-new i20’s sketches that Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) released yesterday? Well, here’s some meat that’ll make the whole waiting period more worthwhile. The new i20 has already entered production and, as fas as the launch is concerned, that will happen during the first week of November 2020. That means you can easily plan for it as a Diwali present!

Hyundai has revealed what all goes into making the new i20. The car’s body consists of 66 per cent high-strength steel, while the structure is created using 5,400 tons stamping at the press shop. The panels are also checked for thinning distribution, whereas the 3D scanning of parts helps analyse and strengthen the press panel parts and precision.

Want more dirt from the manufacturing process? The welding process features more than 450 robots which offer 100 per cent weld automation with over 4,000 welding spots in each car. Over 70 cars can go through that process every hour. Even the paint shop requires minimal manual intervention. Seventy-two robots ensure that the paint job on the all-new i20 is thorough and quick. Here’s a video that shows all that, and a lot more, in action:

If for some reason, you have chosen to skip the video above, you’d also be missing the chance to see the new i20 from several angles. Some of the design highlights include LED-powered headlamps and DRLs, snazzy tail lamp enclosures, a sunroof, dual-tone alloy wheels and a roomy interior. Indoors, there’s the new Hyundai steering wheel being accompanied by a digital instrument cluster. And, of course, there’s a touchscreen infotainment system which, apart from offering support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, will pack Hyundai’s Blue Link tech as well.

Under the powertrains department, expect Hyundai to offer the same set of engines and transmissions as the Venue. And yes, that also includes the intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). When the new i20 launches, it will offer the most choice in this section. That’s not true for most of the competition, which includes the Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Volkswagen Polo. The only rival that offers a diesel engine option is the Tata Altroz.
