Saar: They come from JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations finishing school.

A few days ago, when Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that it will officially launch the refreshed Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India on June 28, we also reported that some engine options didn’t have a price yet. That list included the SVR-spec Range Rover Sport and the SVAutobiography variant of the Range Rover. Well, JLR’s Indian arm has now commenced bookings of the aforementioned models. This comes over two months after the company started entertaining the bookings for the 2018 models of the duo in question.

Range Rover Sport SVR

The Range Rover Sport SVR and the Range Rover SVAutobiography have been released from JLR’s SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) finishing school. The Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine, which also does duty in the recently launched Jaguar F-Type SUV. It puts out 575PS of power and 700Nm of torque and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The setup is enough for the 2.3-tonne SUV to complete the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 283kmph.

Apart from toughening-up the mechanicals underneath, the nerds at SVO have also equipped it with a carbon fibre bonnet, restyled front bumper and new lightweight SVR performance seats. As for the price, it is Rs 1.97 crore.

Range Rover SVAutobiography

Unlike the Range Rover Sport, the Range Rover is available in multiple variants which have the SVAutobiography finishing. Here they are:

  • In Standard Wheelbase
    • Variant name: SVAutobiography Dynamic
      • Price (Petrol): Rs 3.12 crore
  • In Long Wheelbase (LWB)
    • Variant name: SVAutobiography
      • Price (Diesel): Rs 3.77 crore
      • Price (Petrol): Rs 3.88 crore

The petrol-powered ones, in both the standard and LWB forms, feature the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol as the Range Rover Sport SVR. However, it slightly less powerful. In the Range Rover, it is tuned to generate 566PS/700Nm and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It can still get you to 100kmph from a standstill in just 5.4 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 225kmph.

The diesel engine on offer with the Range Rover SVAutobiography LWB is the 4.4-litre SDV8. It produces 340PS of power and 740Nm of torque, while transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic unit. Land Rover claims that it can reach 100kmph from nought in 6.9 seconds and top out at 218kmph.

The SVAutobiography Dynamic comes with a retuned chassis, steering and suspension, and sits 8mm lower than the standard Range Rover. To set it apart from the standard lot, it also comes with bespoke graphite accents, red brake callipers and exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels.

On the other hand, the SVAutobiography gets body-coloured side vent graphics with chrome inserts, chrome door handle surrounds and tailgate finisher. A choice of 21- and 22-inch alloy wheels are also on offer. Inside the cabin, the rear seats come with a power-deployable centre console. Additionally, the front seats get 24-way ‘Hot-Stone’ massage functions, power close rear doors, a refrigerator and a Meridian Signature sound system.

At a later stage, expect JLR to expand the variant list further by introducing the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) variant of the Range Rover SVAutobiography. The Range Rover Sport, on the other hand, is also expected to get a 2.0-litre Si4 petrol engine in its kitty that also does duty, albeit in different states of tune, in the Range Rover Velar.

Note: All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom India.
