Porsche unveiled the eighth-gen 911, in S and 4S forms, in November last year. In January 2019, the cabriolet versions of those made their global debut. Now, the German carmaker has taken the wraps off the entry-level derivatives of the new 911 range. Tagged simply as the Carrera Coupé and Carrera Cabriolet, they slot below the S derivatives.

Powering the newly-introduced duo is the same 3.0-litre, twin-turbo flat-six engine which does duty in the S and 4S variants. Here, however, the engine produces 380hp/450Nm, which is 64hp/80Nm less than the others. What’s also noteworthy here is that both the entry-level 911 variants have 15hp more than their predecessors. The new Carrera Coupé can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 4 seconds and top out at 293kmph. The Cabriolet takes 0.2 seconds more to reach 100kmph from a standstill and has a top speed of 291kmph. The optional Sports Chrono Package will slash those acceleration times by 0.2 seconds.

The company says that the newly introduced variants share a number of features with those of a higher grade. The list includes a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a range of connectivity features and assistance systems like the Porsche Wet Mode which, as the name suggests, helps driving in slippery conditions safer. Both models get 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/40 section tyres at the front and 20-inch alloy wheels with 295/35 section tyres at the rear. The fatter rear rubber helps utilise the onboard oomph as all of it is fed to the rear wheels only.

In Germany, Porsche has priced the 911 Carrera Coupé at 104,655 euros and the 911 Carrera Cabriolet at 118,935 euros (prices include VAT and country-specific equipment). Soon, an all-wheel-drive version of the standard 911 will also be unveiled. And we all know what that will be called – the Porsche 911 Carrera 4. The standard 911 variants will also be introduced on our shores in months to come. In India, the new Porsche 911 was launched in April this year and it is currently available in just the S iterations.
