Squeezing its way into the hotly contested and jam-packed subcompact SUV space is the Nissan Magnite. Prices will be revealed on December 2, 2020. If you want to book one, you can do so either online or via an authorised dealership from today. The minimum token amount has been set at Rs 11,000.

Nissan has devised a total of twenty derivatives for the Magnite. They cover three engine-transmission combinations and the optional Tech Pack. The table below concisely captures them:

The range starts with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that also does duty in the Renault Triber. The powerplant puts out 71bhp/96Nm and is available solely with a 5-speed manual transmission. Nissan says that the powertrain is efficient enough to deliver 18.75kmpl. If you want more oomph, you should pick the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine which produces 99bhp. Opt for the 5-speed manual gearbox, and you’d get 160Nm peak torque and a maximum of 20kmpl mileage. With the CVT in the equation, the torque and fuel-economy figures drop down to 152Nm and 17.7kmpl, respectively.

As standard, the Nissan Magnite will come with features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear window defogger with wiper, adjustable headrests, front power windows, tilt-adjustable steering and 3.5-inch LED display within the instrument cluster. As you go higher up the trim tree, the list expands with stuff like LED front fog lamps, an around-view monitor, cruise control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 16-inch alloy wheels and NissanConnect. If all that isn’t enough, the Magnite also offers Bi-LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, tyre pressure monitoring system and wireless support for Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto.

Perhaps all that text left you a bit confused. Here, watch this short video which covers almost everything there is to know about the Magnite:

The Magnite is a critical product for Nissan in India. In all likelihood, the company will play the game on pricing. Reports suggest that the starting price could be in the Rs 5.5 lakh vicinity. That’s only a bit dearer than the Renault Triber, with which the upcoming car shares the platform. Compared to the rivals, like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and even the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Magnite will have a huge advantage on the pricing front.
