Say hello to the refreshed Mini Clubman. Don’t go straining your eyes for long as the changes aren’t that ground-breaking in form. In factor, however, that’s a different story and we’ll get to that in a moment. The Clubman has always been for those who want the blingiest Mini in their garage. And the mildly revamped model tries to raise those standards further.

So, what are the changes? On the outside, the Clubman facelift gets a new radiator grille which, based on the variant chosen, will shiny horizontal struts or black hexagonal grid. Accompanying it is a restyled front bumper which houses newly designed air inlets, which can optionally be draped with chrome accents. Then there are the headlamps which now incorporate larger reflectors and black shields in their layouts. Round LED DRLs are on the lower half of the front fascia. The headlamps can be upgraded to feature LED units or adaptive LED units with Matrix function.

At the rear, LED-powered taillamps come as standard. However, to add a bit of Brit into the mix, the Union Jack profile taillamps are available on the options list. With the facelift, Mini has introduced three new metallic colour shades – Indian Summer Red, British Racing Green and Mini Yours Enigmatic Black. In typical Mini fashion, the roof and ORVMs can be finished in black, white or silver. Optional Piano Black inserts for the exterior, such as the surrounds of the headlamps, rear lights and radiator grille, are available for the Cooper S Clubman and Cooper SD Clubman. In the wheels department, a new, lightweight 18-inch set has been added to the list.

Predictably, there are optional extras for the boring, behind-the-scenes stuff. For instance, the sports suspension can be opted for and the car would lose 10mm in ground clearance. The more expensive option of adaptive suspension makes the rides more engaging most of the time all on its own. The updates inside the cabin are really minimalistic if you don’t look at the new Mini Yours styling packages. The leather upholstery can now be had in Malt Brown, Indigo Blue and Satellite Grey colours. The standard 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be upgraded to an 8.8-inch one by… you know (paying extra)!

Under the bonnet, there are no changes to report. In Europe, the Clubman facelift will be offered with six engine options – three with 3 cylinders (two petrol and one diesel) and three with 4 cylinders (one petrol and two diesel). India is likely to get the same derivative – the Cooper S – as before. This one comes with a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine which is good for 192PS/280Nm. In all likelihood, the India-spec Cooper S Clubman will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Mini is yet to announce any pricing details about the Clubman facelift. Needless to say, it will cost more than before and it should arrive in India before the end of the year. What do you think of it? Let us know in the comments below.
