It was in the year 1959 when the very first iteration of the Mini rolled off the production line in England. Simple maths suggests that the iconic British marque will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. And, to commemorate such an occasion, the Mini 60 Years Edition has been created. It will go on sale from March this year as a Mini 3 Door and Mini 5 Door, both of which will be offered with four engine options.

Before we get to the numbers game, let’s see how the Mini 60 Years Edition tries to celebrate its anniversary. To begin with, it will be available in British Racing Green IV. For those who don’t like that colour, the celebratory model will also be offered in Midnight Black metallic, Moonwalk Grey metallic, Melting Silver metallic and Mini Yours Lapisluxury Blue (non-metallic). All those colours for the body can be combined with the roof and OVRM caps finished in either Pepper White or Black. The exterior design is also adorned with specific anniversary design bonnet strips and bespoke 17-inch alloy wheels.

How does it tell the onlookers that it is the Mini 60 Years Edition? There’s a 60 Years logo on the left-hand bonnet stripe. On the sides, the same logo also appears on the scuttles of the turn indicators. The OVRMs are fitted with projection LEDs and they too project the 60 Years logo. As soon as the doors are opened, the door sills on both sides also flaunt the same logo. You’d think that’s enough with the showing-off but no. Inside the cabin, several bits and pieces, including headrests and steering wheel, flaunt the same logo.

The standard equipment on the Mini 60 Years Edition includes sports leather steering wheel, sports seats, LED headlights, LED fog lamps, white turn indicators and LED rear lights in Union Jack design. Other features include ambient lighting, automatic climate control and rain-sensing wipers. As is the case will all Mini models, you can deck-up the car with a wide range of optional extras. As for the engines, two types of petrol and diesel engines each will be on offer ranging from 136PS to 192PS.

So, there you have it. If you want a special celebratory version of a Mini, the Mini 60 Years Edition will do that job nicely. Mini might also be tempted to bring it to India. Pricing for it will be announced closer to when it is supposed to go on sale in Europe.
