It seems Skoda really likes to make a statement at the Geneva Motor Show. Last year, it wowed the world with the Vision X Concept crossover. This year, at the same event, the Czech carmaker will unveil an all-new Crossover which will expand its SUV portfolio. Why did we particularly mention the Vision X Concept? That’s because the teaser image shown above looks quite similar to the concept car, especially the LED headlamp design. We believe that in March this year, Skoda will take the wraps off the production version of the Vision X Concept.

Skoda is yet to announce the name of the upcoming crossover. Expect that to happen during one of the other teasers lined-up before the gates open to this year’s Geneva Motor Show on March 5. Details, as you’d expect, are scarce at the moment but Skoda has confirmed that the split headlamp design will have LED DRLs which will also work as very-Audi-like dynamic indicators. Here’s how they will look like in the video below.

The carmaker has also said that the crossover will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform and that it will boast new assistance systems on-board. Other details that we can draw from the teaser image and video are the roof rails, conventional OVRMs and red paint.

The most important aspect for us lot in India is the MQB platform. Its derivative – MQB-A0-IN – will underpin the forthcoming products from both Skoda India and Volkswagen India. Sure, the crossover heading to Switzerland won’t be the exact same product that we will get in India next year but it should give us a good platform for what to expect from Skoda India, which will lead the India 2.0 project for Volkswagen Group.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
