Morris Garages (MG) Motor India has introduced the 2021 Hector range. The long list includes the revised Hector, Hector Plus 6 Seater and the newly-introduced Hector Plus 7 Seater. Updates? The Hector and Hector Plus get a few cosmetic changes inside and out and pack more features. Also, the company has dropped a couple of variants. Before getting into the details, let’s look at the detailed price list, and how it compares to the old one:

The first, most notable takeaway is the hike in prices. Depending on which variant you settle for, you will pay anything between Rs 6,000 and Rs 44,000 more than what you would have done until the end of last year. Also, MG Motor India has dropped two variants of the Hector Plus 6 Seater. As a result, there are no Style derivatives left, and its range starts at Rs 16 lakh. Unless you want the three-row SUV in a seven-seater format. Then, the entry-level price tag is Rs 13.35 lakh.

Moving to the updates, the Hector gets a chrome-studded front grille, a black plastic strip between the taillamps (replaces the reflector lamp), gun-metal skid plates at the front and rear and new 18-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels. Indoors, the SUV ditches the all-black theme for a more premium dual-tone one (champagne and black). Apart from those cosmetic changes, the Hector range also gets some additional goodies. That includes ventilated front seats, wireless mobile charger and an upgraded i-Smart system that can now connect to an external internet feed. Another noteworthy feature is the infotainment system’s ability to understand specific commands given in “Hinglish”.

As for the powertrain options, they remain the same. The 1.5-litre petrol engine, with or without the 48-volt mild-hybrid system, produces 141bhp/250Nm. You can have it with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT. The 2.0-litre diesel engine, on the other hand, produces 168bhp/350Nm and is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In India, the MG Hector competes directly with the Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta. The Hector Plus is a rival for the Mahindra XUV500 (new one coming this year) and two upcoming models – the new Tata Safari and the seven-seat Creta.
