To cater to a broader audience while adding a bit more zing to the mix, Morris Garages India has introduced the option of a dual-tone finish for the Hector. For MG, two-colour treatment means a blacked-out roof, ORVMs and A-pillars. For the body, you can have just two colours – Glaze Red or Candy White. Sadly, the dual-tone options are limited to the range-topping Sharp trim, meaning there are only three variants – Petrol Hybrid MT, Petrol-DCT and Diesel MT. Their prices are Rs 16.84 lakh, Rs 17.76 lakh and Rs 18.09 lakh, respectively.

Compared to the monotone variants, the dual-tone ones cost Rs 20,000 more. If that a bit much? Well, let’s put it this way – Tata Motors asks for an additional Rs 10,000 for giving the Harrier a dual-shade finish. Also, the Harrier has four dual-tone variants. That said, the most expensive twin-colour Harrier (Diesel-MT) still costs Rs 91,000 less than Harrier XZ+ Dual-Tone.

Are there any other changes? In a word, no. The MG Hector is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which pumps out 141bhp/250Nm. It comes with or without a mild-hybrid system. In the former form, the powerplant comes coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. In the Sharp trim level, the non-hybridised petrol mill is available only with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Diesel lovers have just one choice – a 2.0-litre mill (168bhp/350Nm) mated to a 6-speed MT.

In India, the feature-laden Hector competes directly with the Tata Harrier and lower version of the Jeep Compass. The three-row Hector – the Hector Plus – is a rival for the Mahindra XUV500 and the lower variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta. MG Motor India might introduce dual-tone colour options for the Hector Plus as well. Later in the year, the company will launch its flagship offering – the Glouster. Expect it to gain a price list around Diwali 2020.
