The word “Sport” is often misused or somewhat misinterpreted, especially in the world of automobiles. It fits fine with low-slung, two-seater road huggers but a “sport” MPV makes no sense to many. At the end of the day, it all comes down to one’s perspective. People feel that something with the “Sport” badge has to be “Sporty” in nature. That’s doesn’t hold for cars. And highlighting that point is Ford’s latest offering – the Endeavour Sport.

At Rs 35.1 lakh, before taxes, it costs Rs 65,000 more than the previous range-topper – the Titanium+ 4×4 AT. So, how is Ford justifying the price difference? Simple – with an array of bespoke styling elements, all of which are black. At the front, there’s the all-black grille, accompanied by smoked headlamp enclosures. The front fender along with the front and rear skid plates also boast the blacked-out treatment. Even the ORVM caps, fender grilles and side steppers have received the same finish. Rounding the embellishments are a couple of “Sport” badges and a set of new 18-inch black alloys.

So, although the blacked-out bits and pieces do make the Endeavour look more sporty, they don’t help it go any differently. There, that’s the difference. Powering the Endeavour Sport is the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that pumps out 168bhp/420Nm and comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford claims that even though the Sport variant weighs slightly more, it can return the same mileage as the standard four-wheel-drive derivative. For the record, that number is 12.4kmpl.

As you’d expect, there are no changes in the list of features. That means the Endeavour Sport packs stuff like Terrain Management System, seven airbags, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Ford’s SYNC3 platform, a panoramic sunroof, semi-auto parallel park assist and hands-free power lift boot lid. Other features include dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power-adjustable front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, front parking sensors and a 10-speaker sound system.

Ford’s offering the Endeavour Sport in three colours – Absolute Black, Diffused Silver and Diamond White. And the standard warranty cover is for 3 years/1,00,000km, whichever is earlier. There’s no denying that the Endeavour Sport is Ford’s answer to Toyota’s Fortuner TRD. Out of the two, which one would you pick?
