Tata Motors has unveiled the new Tigor EV. Unsurprisingly, it’s is based on the conventionally-powered Tigor. But, of course, it doesn’t make any noise, nor does it produce any local emissions. Bookings for the Tigor EV are now underway, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 21,000. One can either do that online or by visiting the nearest Tata Motors dealership. As for the launch, that’s scheduled for August 31, 2021.

Before getting into the details, let’s clear the air a bit. Unlike the old model, the new one is aimed at private car buyers. For commercial use, Tata Motors has another Tigor-based model – the Xpres-T electric sedan.

The new Tigor EV packs what Tata Motors calls “Ziptron” technology. That takes the form of an electric motor producing 74bhp and 170Nm of torque, a 26kWh battery and a single-speed transmission. Tata Motors claims that the Tigor EV can hit 60kmph from nothing in 5.7 seconds, quick enough for city driving.

As with the Nexon EV, the new Tigor EV also supports fast and regular charging. Plug it into a recommended fast charger, and it can replenish its battery from zero to 80 per cent in about an hour. If you use a 15amp electricity feed, the wait time increases to about 8.5 hours. In other words, you can plug the Tigor EV at night, and when it’s time to head out the following day, you’re all set. And yes, the motor and the battery come with IP67 grade of water- and dust-resistance. As for the warranty, they both are covered for 8 years/1,60,000km.

Tata Motors has devised three variants for the new Tigor EV – XM, XZ+ and XZ+ Dual Tone. All three are available in a Teal Blue shade, but the dual-tone derivative ropes in a blacked-out roof. The standard list of features includes automatic climate control, Sports mode with gearbox, dual airbags, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD. Stuff like Hill Ascent Assist, Hill Descent Assist and Corner Stability Control are also part of the same list.

The range-topping variant will offer extra stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-speaker sound system and Tata Motors’ iRA tech with 30+ connected-car features. As for the boot space, that’s 316 litres but can be expanded to 375 litres if the spare wheel is removed.

The company hasn’t confirmed the new Tigor EV’s range just yet. That, and the variant-wise features list, will be revealed at the time of launch. So, how do you like it?
