On this date five years ago, Maruti Suzuki introduced its new range of dealerships under the name Nexa. The journey began with the compact crossover S-Cross, followed by the Baleno and the Ignis. In April 2017, Maruti Suzuki shifted the Ciaz from its Arena range of dealerships to Nexa. And then, in August last year, the company introduced a fifth product under the Nexa umbrella – the XL6.

In five years, Maruti Suzuki has registered over 1.1 million sales from its Nexa channel. Simple math reveals that on average, Nexa clocked more than 220,000 sales every year. Had it not have been for the COVID-19 outbreak, all those numbers would be higher. Get this – Maruti Suzuki recorded the one-millionth sale via the Nexa channel in September last year.

Presently, Maruti Suzuki has over 370 Nexa showrooms spread across 200 cities in India. Those figures make the Nexa range of dealerships the third-largest in the country. As per the carmaker, nearly half of Nexa customers are under the age of 35 years, well-travelled and technology savvy. That’s a profiling Maruti Suzuki has done!

Amongst the models sold via the Nexa route, the S-Cross is the only one that hasn’t graduated to the mandatory BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emissions norms yet. However, that will change on August 5, 2020, as the crossover will ditch diesel power in favour of a petrol-only portfolio.

Another important announced that recently came from India’s largest carmaker was that it doesn’t see a strong case for small diesel engines to exist. If you rope in the fact that the diesel fuel now costs more than petrol in India, you’d agree with that notion. Instead, Maruti Suzuki will focus on expanding its range of CNG-powered models. As things stand, the company sells no such model from its Nexa dealerships. Models which have factory-fitted CNG kits include the S-Presso, WagonR and the Celerio. Maruti Suzuki sells them via its Arena range of showrooms.
