India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is celebrating another sales milestone this month. Its Eeco van has surpassed the 5-lakh lifetime sales mark in about eight years. It was first introduced in the year 2010. By the end of the 2011-12 fiscal, it crossed 1 lakh sales milestone. The practical and commodious van took surpassed the 2-lakh sales mark during FY2013-14. The following fiscal year saw the introduction of the Cargo petrol variant, which helped the Eeco brand cross 3 lakh sales in FY 2015-16. During the next fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki launched the Eeco Minor variant. It, along with the other variants, helped the marque cross 4 lakh lifetime sales before the end of the same fiscal.

Here’s what R S Kalsi, senior executive director, marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., had to say about the Eeco’s sales milestone in a press release:

“Eeco is designed to meet varied functional needs – be it personal such as an outing with family or for business. Eeco has been a partner in progress for young entrepreneurs in the country. Maruti Suzuki has consistently introduced upgrades in Eeco to stay relevant and adapt to changing needs of the customers. Customers prefer the modern design of Eeco in its segment, coupled with high fuel efficiency. We are confident to sustain a strong foothold in the segment with Eeco. We thank our customers for their support.”

The Eeco, which is available in a five- or a seven-seat configuration, has always been a pocket-friendly option for a commodious van. It is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 73PS of power and 101Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki also sells CNG variants of the Eeco, which return a claimed mileage of 21.8km/kg. CNG variants account for over 17 per cent of total Eeco sales. The fuel efficiency for the petrol-only variants is rated at 16.2kmpl. Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Eeco start at Rs 3.32 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 6.33 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
