Saar: India’s largest carmaker grabbed top six spots out of the ten bestselling cars last month.

It isn’t a surprise that the majority of models cracking the top 10 bestsellers list in the country every month are from the house of Maruti Suzuki. In July this year, India’s largest carmaker grabbed top six spots out of the ten bestselling cars. Based on the trend, some might assume that the Maruti Suzuki Alto topped the list again. But no, that wasn’t the case. The Alto was dethroned by the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which racked up 25,647 sales. During the same month last year, the company had sold 14,703 units of the sub-4 metre sedan. Back then, the Dzire was the fifth bestselling model in the country.

The ageing Alto took the second spot with a total sales figure of 23,371 in July this year. In July 2017, Maruti Suzuki retailed 26,009 units of the pocket-friendly hatchback. The third position was bagged by Dzire’s hatchback cousin – the Swift. A total of 19,993 units were sold in July this year, compared to 13,738 units in July last year. Grabbing the fourth spot was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which garnered a total of 17,960 sales last month, which was lower than 19,153 units sold in the same month last year.

Next in line was the cabby’s favourite – Maruti Suzuki WagonR. The company retailed 14,339 units of the tallboy hatchback last month. In July 2017, however, the WagonR performed better with 16,301 units sold across the country. Completing Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the list of bestselling cars last month was the Vitara Brezza. The company sold 14,181 units, which was less than the 15,243 units sold in the same month last year.

At the seventh, eighth and ninth positions were Hyundai’s Elite i20, Grand i10 and the Creta respectively. The South Korean carmaker sold 10,822 units of the Elite i20 last month. During July 2017, the premium hatchback racked-up 11,390 sales. The Grand i10, which was recently being sold, for a limited period, at a special price, garnered 10,775 sales for the carmaker. That figure, however, was lower than the 12,002 sales in July 2017.

The Creta, at the ninth position in July 2017, had a monthly sales figure of 10,423. That was a bit low when compared to the 10,556 sales figure from the same month last year. Completing the top-ten list was the Honda Amaze. The Japanese carmaker sold 10,180 units of the sub-4 metre sedan. In July 2017, with a total sales figure of 2,913, the Amaze wasn’t even in the top-25 bestselling cars in the country.
