Hand on heart, we really believed that Maruti Suzuki would not bother upgrading the CelerioX to meet the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission standards. Why? Simply because the model didn’t do quite as well as the company would have hoped. But, we have been proven wrong. India’s largest carmaker has indeed upgraded the CelerioX to meet the stricter emission norms. Prices for the range start at Rs 4.9 lakh and go up to Rs 5.67 lakh. Here’s the complete price list:

All variants house the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 67bhp/90Nm. As standard, it comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Those who want a two-pedal setup can opt for the AMT-equipped derivatives. Everything is the same as before, except for the mileage figure. In BSIV form, the CelerioX could clock 23.1kmpl. However, the mechanical and software upgrades to gain BS6 compliance has reduced that figure to 21.63kmpl. Simple math reveals a drop of 1.47kmpl.

On the features front, both VXI and VXI (O) share most of them, including rear parking sensors, driver’s side airbag an accessory socket, 60:40 split rear seat, manual AC, all four power windows and central locking. The latter of the two derivatives costs more because of the additional airbag (for the front passenger) and front seatbelts with pre-tensioner and load-limiter. Opt for the range-topping trim and the CelerioX will come with stuff like a Bluetooth-enabled audio system, multifunction steering wheel, height-adjustable driver’s seat, tilt-adjustable steering, 14-inch black alloy wheels and rear wiper with washer.

In India, the Maruti Suzuki CelerioX competes with the Tata Tiago, Datsun Go and the Nissan Micra Active. Presently, there’s no word on when or if Datsun and Nissan will introduce BS6-compliant versions of their respective hatchbacks. Price-wise, the CelerioX also cannibalises its sibling, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. As for the rest of the Celerio range, that became BS6-compliant in January this year.
