It was in January this year when Lamborghini unveiled the Huracan Evo RWD to the world. By the end of the same month, the car arrived in India sporting a price tag of Rs 3.22 crore without taxes. And now, we’ve got its sibling – the Huracan Evo RWD Spyder. Its party-piece is, of course, the ability to deliver limitless headroom. What also works is that one can enjoy the howling engine just as much as the onlookers.

Bolted right behind the seats is the same 5.2-litre, naturally-aspired V10 engine that does duty in the rest of the Huracan range. It puts out 602bhp/560Nm which, with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 324kmph. Compared to the coupe, the Huracan Evo RWD Spyder is two-tenths of a second slower to reach 100kmph and isn’t as quick flat out either (down by 1kmph). Honestly, none of those minute differences matter as an open-top Lamborghini is a thing to relish than race.

Design-wise, the only significant difference is the retractable soft-top roof. The act of electrically folding and placing it in a hood behind the seats takes about 17 seconds. And, obviously, the flaunt-factor dials-up when you can do that at speeds of up to 50kmph. Lamborghini claims that the roof is lightweight and is available in multiple colour options. And yes, just to enjoy that engine noise more, one can lower the rear windshield as well. How well does Lamborghini know its customers!

Toys such as the Performance Traction Control System, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, powered wing mirrors and 19-inch Kari rims with Pirelli P Zero tyres are available with the Spyder as well. The optional equipment includes ‘MagneRide’ electromagnetic damper control, LDS steering with variable steering ratio and 20-inch alloys. Those who want more personalised tweaks can run through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam section.

Price? In the UK, it costs about GBP 151,000, which is approximately 14,000 more than the coupe. And yes, India will get it too. Expect it cost around Rs 3.5 crore.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
