The Indian arm of the British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover has launched a special edition of the Jaguar XJ. Dubbed simply as the Jaguar XJ50, it carries a price tag of Rs 1.11 crore (ex-showroom India). The XJ50 is, essentially, a celebratory variant of Jaguar Land Rover’s flagship saloon. The XJ marque is celebrating 50 years of existence in the industry.

So, what’s special about it? Like the standard XJ range, the Jaguar XJ50 is available in the long-wheelbase form. To make it stand out from the rest, the Tata-owned carmaker has garnished it with Autobiography-style front and rear bumpers, chrome grille with chrome surround, 19-inch alloy wheels, unique badging inside and out, diamond-quilted seats, bright metal pedals and anodized gearshift paddles. The Jaguar XJ50 also comes with an embossed leaper on headrests, illuminated air vents, the XJ50 logo on the centre armrest and XJ50-branded illuminated treadplates. Jaguar Land Rover India will offer the XJ50 in four new colours – Fuji White, Santorini Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.

Under the hood is a 3.0-litre, V6 turbo-diesel engine which puts out 306PS of power and 689Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission which feeds the oomph to the rear wheels only. This is the same engine-transmission combination that you get with the Premium Luxury and Portfolio trims of the Jaguar XJ. The company claims that the XJ50 can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.2 seconds and reach 250kmph at full stretch.

In India, the Jaguar XJ competes with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 and the Lexus LS. Out of that lot, only the Jaguar and the Lexus are available with a single engine-transmission combination in India. The Japanese sedan also claims the title of being the only one with a hybrid powertrain. As for the Audi A8, the next-gen version will arrive in India next year.
