Saar: The add-on now comes with added connectivity features under the names – Protect, Remote Premium and Secure Tracker.

The Indian arm of the British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover has upped the game in the add-ons segment, specifically the InControl Package. The optional extra now comes with three advanced connectivity features under the names – Protect, Remote Premium and Secure Tracker. The added features are in addition to the already included creature comforts such as Wi-Fi Hotspot. However, the enhanced InControl Package is only available as an optional extra for three models – Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and the Land Rover Discovery.

Under the Protect category, there are two new features – Optimised Assistance and SOS Emergency Call. In the event of a vehicle’s breakdown, the former can be triggered by either pressing the dedicated button on the left side of the overhead console or via the InControl Remote Smartphone App. Once activated, a breakdown service unit is dispatched to the vehicle’s location. The other feature – SOS Emergency Call – is designed to cater to a more serious incident. The feature automatically connects the user to the emergency response team, who will notify the emergency services. This feature can also be activated manually by pressing a dedicated button on the right-hand side of the overhead console.

The Remote Premium category brings the ease of connecting with the vehicle remotely via a smartphone app. Without directly coming into contact with the vehicle, the user can activate the automatic climate control and even lock or unlock the car. Other features of the add-on include receiving alerts if the vehicle’s alarm goes off, flashing of lights to locate the vehicle and where available, use the seat fold function.

The last of the added features is Secure Tracker. As the name suggests, it is designed to keep a check on any unauthorised tampering or entry into the vehicle. If the system detects any such activity, it will trigger a theft notification to the ‘Stolen Vehicle Tracking Centre’ that will immediately alert the registered InControl user. The system is smart enough to even pinpoint the stolen vehicle, which should help the law enforcement agencies to locate the vehicle faster.

Expect Jaguar Land Rover to extend the availability of the enhanced InControl Package to other models in the near future. It, however, is likely to remain a part of the extras that customers have to pay for over and above the car’s cost.
