Hyundai has quietly launched a new variant of the Grand i10 – Magna Petrol MT with CNG. It is priced at Rs 6.39 lakh in solid paint and Rs 6.43 lakh in metallic paint (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi. Compared to the non-CNG Magna petrol MT variant, the new one is approximately Rs 67,000 more expensive. In fact, it is more or less at par with the price of petrol MT Sportz (Dual Tone) variant. For the uninitiated, factory-fitted CNG kit was earlier available only in Grand i10’s Prime variant, which has been devised particularly for fleet operators.

Compared to the petrol-only Magna MT variant, there are a couple of changes to report. The first and obvious one is in the boot area where a CNG cylinder has been installed. The second change is another noteworthy one – engine tune. In all other petrol variants, the Grand i10 has 83PS/114Nm on tap. However, the new variant has 82PS/110Nm of oomph when fed with petrol. On CNG, the same engine produces 66PS/98Nm. The only transmission option available is a 5-speed manual.

Obviously, the Magna trim doesn’t bring all the bells and whistles that Hyundai has to offer. However, the list of features still includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, roof rails, full wheel covers, a trip computer, a two-din audio system with four speakers (AT gets a 5.0-inch touchscreen), a multifunction steering wheel, manual AC with rear vents, two 12V accessory sockets and electrically adjustable ORVMs.

With the new variant, which isn’t targeted at fleet operators, Hyundai Grand i10 becomes the only car in its segment which is available with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Speaking of the segment, Hyundai’s Grand i10 competes with Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo. Later this year, Hyundai will introduce an all-new Grand i10, which will not only be BSVI-compliant but also meet the safety norms with a list of standardised safety features. However, Hyundai’s next-in-line launch is the Venue, bookings for which opened only last week.
