Honda City was always one of the safest cars in its segment. However, to make it compliant with the safety norms which will come into effect from the first of next month, Honda has upped the standard safety kit across the City line-up. All trim levels will now come with a high-speed alert and a seatbelt reminder for the front passenger. The addition of these features hasn’t had any impact on the price list.

Apart from the newly added safety gizmos, all City derivatives come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX anchorages, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder for the driver, rear windshield defogger and customisable auto door locking/unlocking. Only the range-topping ZX trim gets the safety of four additional airbags.

The City is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Both engines have 1.5 litres of cubic capacity but where the petrol is tuned to produce 119PS/145Nm and can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT (continuously variable transmission), the diesel pumps out 100PS/200Nm and is available only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Based on which variant you choose, the petrol and diesel mills can return up to 18kmpl and 25.6kmpl, respectively.

As far as the list of features is concerned, it is quite a lengthy one. The City comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto headlamps and wipers, electric sunroof, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, push-button start-stop, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment and auto-folding ORVMs. Priced between Rs 9.72-14.07 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Honda City competes with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris and the Skoda Rapid.
