Earlier this year, Mahindra made some changes to the Scorpio’s portfolio. And now, with the nation entering the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) era, the automaker has revealed details of the SUV that complies with the stricter emission norms. Prices start at Rs 12.4 lakh and go up to Rs 16 lakh. The BS6-compliant Scorpio is available in four variants, and here’s the complete price list:

  • S5 – Rs 12.40 lakh
  • S7 – Rs 14.21 lakh
  • S9 – Rs 14.84 lakh
  • S11 – Rs 16 lakh

All variants house a 2.2-litre diesel engine. In the S5, it produces 118bhp/280Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In the rest of the range, the power-plant pumps out 138bhp/320Nm, while a 6-speed manual handles transmission duties. Mahindra has taken away the option of the 2.5-litre diesel engine. Not many will mind that exclusion. What they might miss is the option of a four-wheel-drive system. Earlier, the potent tech was available in the range-topping S11 variant only.

As for the list of features, it remains mostly unaltered. As standard, Scorpio packs stuff like dual airbags, ABS, Micro-hybrid tech, rear parking sensors, LED units in tail lamps and all four power windows. As you go up the trim tree, features such as automatic climate control, cruise control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps and wipers, LED DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels and rear wiper with washer are available.

If you are amongst the heartbroken, don’t worry. The option of four-wheel-drive and automatic transmission will make a comeback. That will happen when Mahindra introduces the all-new Scorpio. In all probability, we’ll get it by the end of the year. Until then, the current-gen model will march on to lure customers away from models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and the Renault Captur.

Note: All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom Delhi.
