In the past couple of months, BMW India has launched three cars. In October, we got the 2 Series Gran Coupe, followed by the X3 M and the X5 M Competition last month. To end the year on a high note, the German carmaker has devised something called a Black Shadow Edition of the 2 Series Gran Coupe. It will be available on BMW India’s online shop from December 7, 2020. Only 24 units will be up for grabs, and each one will cost Rs 42.3 lakh. That’s Rs 90,000 more than the standard 220d M Sport.

So, what is it? To create it, the company has taken the 220d M Sport variant and garnished it with the BMW Individual high-gloss shadow line package along with BMW ‘M’ Performance parts worth Rs 2.5 lakh. So, the four-door coupe in Black Shadow form boasts a black mesh-style M front grille, black ORVM caps, gloss-black rear spoiler, black chrome tailpipe finishing, 18-inch Y-Spoke wheels in matt black and BMW Floating hub cap featuring the brand’s logo which remains level at all times.

BMW will offer the 220d M Sport Black Shadow Edition in two colours – Alpine White and Black Sapphire. The Sensatec Oyster | Black upholstery will dominate the interiors. Other features inside the cabin include a panorama glass roof, powered sports seats with memory function, ambient lighting, two-zone climate control, two 10.25-inch displays (one each for the instrument cluster and infotainment purposes), wireless Apple CarPlay, a 10-speaker sound system, launch control, multiple driving modes and a wireless mobile charger.

As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine pumps out 188bhp/400Nm and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. That combo is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 235kmph.

In India, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has no direct rivals at the moment. Soon, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine will join the party. Other premium options in the same sort of price range are the Audi Q2 and the Mini Countryman.
