Earlier this month, BMW India landed the X3 M. That wears a price tag of Rs 99.9 lakh. The company feels that 473bhp/600Nm isn’t enough for some, and the X3 might not fit generously-sized people. Or, it just wants to offer more exciting models. Probably, it is the latter. That’s why it has now introduced the X5 M Competition. Like the X3 M, the new offering also arrives via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. And because of that, it costs an eye-watering Rs 1.95 crore, excluding taxes.

Since it is an M-powered vehicle, the only place to start the unravelling process is from under the bonnet. The X5 M Competition packs a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 that pumps out 617bhp/750Nm. Coupled to the powerplant is an 8-speed automatic transmission, which feeds the oomph to an active all-wheel-drive system. That’s the same setup as the M5 Competition. BMW claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.8 seconds, 0-200kmph run in 13.4 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 250kmph. BMW also offers the M Driver’s package, which enables the X5 M Competition to reach 290kmph at full stretch. Considering that the SUV weighs more than 2.3 tonnes, none of those figures will translate to a disappointment to anyone sane.

As for the features, the BMW X5 M Competition comes with adaptive LED headlights, powered tailgate, panorama glass roof, rain-sensing wipers, 21-inch front alloys and 22-inch rear wheels. Indoors, the car offers four-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, two 12.3-inch displays (one each for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment purposes), powered front seats with memory function, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, head-up display and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Covering the safety front are features like a tyre pressure monitoring system, electric parking brake with auto hold, cornering brake control, a bunch of airbags, ISOFIX anchorages for child booster seats and Dynamic Stability Control including Dynamic Traction Control.

Book one online by December 31, 2020, and get an exclusive hospitality experience designed by BMW Excellence Club in collaboration with Isprava luxury villas. The X5 M Competition competes directly with the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. If you had the money, which out of three would you buy?
