During the lockdown period, India completed the transition to BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms. And some carmakers couldn’t meet the deadline to introduce their compliant models. Now, however, the country is slowly but steadily getting into the grove. That’s good news for automobile manufacturers as they can retune their rhythm and continue to march on. The latest to join the BS6 era is Datsun. It has launched upgraded versions of the GO hatchback and the GO+ mini MPV.

In BS6 form, the Datsun GO range starts at Rs 3.99 lakh. The least-expensive CVT-equipped variant costs Rs 6.25 lakh. Those figures, in the same order, for the Datsun GO+ are Rs 4.2 lakh and Rs 6.7 lakh. Powering both the models is the upgraded 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 67bhp/104Nm with the 5-speed manual transmission, and 76bhp/104Nm with the CVT. Here are the mileage figures:

  • Datsun GO
    • Petrol-MT: 19.02kmpl
    • Petrol-CVT: 19.59kmpl
  • Datsun GO+
    • Petrol-MT: 19.02kmpl
    • Petrol-CVT: 18.57kmpl

There’s no difference in the list of features for either of the models. Depending on the variant chosen, both still offer stuff like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-airbags, LED DRLs, 14-inch alloy wheels, power windows, keyless entry and electrically-adjustable ORVMs.

Apart from easy finance schemes, Datsun is also offering the option of “Buy Now and Pay in 2021”. That should come in handy to get the numbers rolling in the right direction. In India, the Datsun GO competes with the likes of the Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai Santro. The GO+, on the other hand, has just one direct rival – the Renault Triber.

Datsun is also prepping the launch of the Redi-Go facelift. Not only will it have the same BS6-ready powertrains as the Renault Kwid but also a radical new look. Expect that to join the party by the end of the month.
