It has been just over seven months since Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) officially started accepting bookings for the new Creta. And, just shy of seven months since the company revealed prices of the compact SUV in question. Then, in mid-June, the carmaker confirmed that the bookings counter had surpassed the 14,000-mark. By July-end, that figure had risen past 55,000, and by before we got to mid-August, HMIL had received an additional 10,000 bookings.

Now, Hyundai’s announced that it has received over 1.15 lakh reservations for the Creta since its launch. Out of the lot, 60 per cent of customers have opted for diesel-fed variants. And, derivatives equipped with the BlueLink connected-car tech account for over 25,000 bookings. Over the Jan-Sep 2020 period, the compact SUV has not only helped HMIL garner an overall market share of 17.6 per cent but also bumped-up its market share in SUV space to 26 per cent.

The Creta is also the most researched model on Hyundai’s online car buying platform – ‘Click To Buy’. Over 1,100 bookings came from the said channel. From May to September 2020, the Hyundai Creta has topped the sales charts in its segment. Last month, HMIL retailed 12,325 units of the SUV in question. As per Hyundai, over 5.2 lakh customers have purchased the Creta since 2015.

Hyundai quietly updated the Creta’s portfolio in the recent past. It added a new base variant, which brought the starting price down to Rs 9.82 lakh. Alongside, it increased prices for most of the Creta’s variants by up to Rs 61,900. In India, the Creta faces cut-throat competition from the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Nissan Kicks and the MG Hector. Reports suggest that Hyundai is working on a three-row version of the Creta, which will compete against the MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500. Before that happens, though, expect the introduction of the all-new i20.
