The funky-looking Citroën C5 Aircross is finally up for grabs. Bookings for the SUV are now open, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 50,000. Those interested can do so either online, via Citroën India’s official website, or by contacting the nearest authorised dealership.

Now, there’s an early-bird offer. Every customer that books a C5 Aircross by April 6, 2021, and takes delivery before June 30, 2021, will be entitled to a complimentary maintenance package for their new car. The package offers free replacement of parts included in the servicing schedule for 5 years/50,000km. Add-ons, such as wheel alignment and wheel balancing, won’t be part of it.

As revealed earlier, the Citroën C5 Aircross will commence its India innings with just one powertrain. That comprises a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine, producing 174bhp/400Nm, and 8-speed automatic transmission. As per Citroën, the engine-transmission combo is efficient enough to return as high as 18.6kmpl.

The French carmaker, which is now part of Stellantis, has kept the list of variants down to two – Feel and Shine. In the former form, the SUV will offer stuff like auto headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, six airbags, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. The costlier Shine variant will, predictably, offer more creature comforts. Some of the add-ons it will pack include a panoramic sunroof, LED-powered headlamps and hands-free tailgate opening.

Citroën’s assembling the C5 Aircross in India. In other words, it lands on our shores via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. Even so, the price range should hover between Rs 28 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom. The upcoming SUV will have a 3 year/1,00,000km standard warranty and retailed via 10 Citroën dealerships in the country. Once it launches, it will compete directly with the Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass.

While Citroën knows the C5 Aircross won’t be a volume generator, it is already working on a product that could fill that void. The company’s second offering would be a rival for Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon – a heavily-localised subcompact SUV.
