The last of the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) Hondas breaks cover. It is, of course, the Jazz. To inject some life back into the ageing hatch, the Japanese carmaker has added a few design changes and a couple of new features. The former includes a gloss black grille with chrome accents and redesigned front and rear bumpers. As for the gizmos, the hatchback gets new LED fog lamps, revamped LED headlamps and, a segment-unique, electric sunroof.

Honda has decided to offer the updated Jazz in petrol-only form. The engine in question will be the same that powers the Amaze and the WR-V. That means 89bhp/110Nm of oomph from a 1.2litre, four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated powerplant. As standard, it will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Alternatively, one could opt for a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) as well. The latter option also gets the convenience of paddle shifters. Honda says that nearly 70 per cent of total Jazz sales in the market last year accounted for variants with the two-pedal setup.

Jazz has always been one of the most practical and roomiest hatchbacks in its segment. Nothing has changed those traits. Those who are interested can book one either via Honda’s website or by contacting the nearest authorised dealership. For the former medium, the minimum token amount is Rs 5,000. That for the latter option shoots up to Rs 21,000. Honda will reveal the prices within the current month.

In India, the Honda Jazz competes with a range of potent products. The list includes the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Tata Altroz. Although the Jazz has never really managed to set the sales chart on fire, it has always had a cult following in India. But, is that enough for Honda to gamble and think about bringing the all-new Jazz on Indian shores? Only time will tell.
