Here’s some good news for Ford fans! The BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) EcoSport is now available. Prices start at Rs 8.04 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 11.58 lakh, before taxes. When compared with BSIV prices, the upward revision across the range is by Rs 13,000. As reported before, the EcoBoost engine is no longer part of the options list. However, the EcoSport retains both its 1.5-litre petrol and diesel power-plants. Here’s the complete price list:

To make the EcoSport comply with the stricter emission norms, Ford has made some hardware as well as software changes. The crux of the matter is this – the 3-cylinder petrol engine produces approximately 1bhp/1Nm less than it did in the BSIV form. On the diesel front, the story is a bit different. Interestingly, the 99bhp power out remains as is. But, the torque figure has jumped from 205Nm to 215Nm. As before, both engines come coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Only the turbo-petrol engine is available with a 6-speed automatic as well.

Apart from offering different power and torque, the BS6-ready powertrains also claim different mileage figures. The petrol-MT combination can now go up to 15.9kmpl, which is 0.6kmpl less than before. Similarly, the diesel-MT setup can only go as high as 21.7kmpl. That’s accounts for a deficit of 1.3kmpl. Surprisingly, the petrol-AT in BS6 form offers slightly better fuel economy. At 14.7kmpl, it is 0.1kmpl better off.

The BS6-ready EcoSport also comes with a better standard warranty. Instead of a 2 years/100,000 km cover, the subcompact SUV gets a warranty of 3 years/100,000 km. The rest of the package, including features and the colour options, remains the same as before. The EcoSport becomes the first sub-4 metre SUV to offer a complete BS6-compliant range. The Mahindra XUV300 has BS6-ready variants but, as things stand, are all petrol-powered. Models like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue have yet to receive any variants which will survive after March 31, 2020.
