Thanks to COVID-19, all carmakers had to push their product launches forward. BMW was one of them. In January this year, it commenced accepting bookings for the all-new X6 in India. With India slowly getting back into the groove, the company has now revealed the model’s launch date. On this coming Thursday, June 11, 2020, BMW India will launch the crossover. Yes, it will be a digital launch. And yes, expect at least two variants.

There’s no word on which engines the X6 will have on offer. What’s for sure, however, is that it will share them with the X5. In other words, the BMW X6 will have at least one diesel and one petrol engine in its portfolio. The former will come in the xDrive30d xLine guise, whereas the latter will wear the xDrive40i M Sport badge.

Those opting for the diesel will get a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged engine which produces 261bhp/620Nm. That’s good for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 230kmph. The petrol-powered X6, on the other hand, will also house a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged mill that pumps out 335bhp/450Nm. With that engine, BMW claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph. Both power-plants will come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

Just like the mechanical stuff, the X6 will also share creature comforts with the X5. That means things like two 12.3-inch displays (one each for the instrument cluster and infotainment activities), four-zone climate control, LED-powered headlamps and taillamps, ambient lighting, powered tailgate and launch control will be part of the package. On the safety front, the crossover will offer surround-view using 360-degree cameras, attentiveness assistant, front and rear parking sensors, hill descent control and electronic parking brake.

The BMW X6 is a direct rival to the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the Audi Q8. If you had to buy, which one would it be?
