Those who like BMW’s take on what a crossbreed between an SUV and a Coupé looks and feels like will soon have more than just the X4 to buy. The company’s Indian arm has started accepting bookings for the third-gen X6. Unveiled in July last year, the X5’s less practical cousin should arrive in India before we enter the second half of 2020.

In all likelihood, the new X6 will be available in two variants – the xDrive30d xLine and the xDrive40i M Sport. Both will share their powertrains with the X5 and the X7. The 30d would house a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which produces 261bhp/620Nm, 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system. With that configuration, the X6 can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.5 seconds and top out at 230kmph.

If you don’t want a diesel-powered heart, you could opt for the 40i. That will also boast a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder motor boosted by a turbocharger, along with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. With 335bhp/450Nm on tap, the X6 can complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 250kmph. This version will be a lot thirstier than the diesel-fed motor. And like the rest of the BMW range, the X6 will meet the stricter BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) emission norms as well.

As far as the list of features is concerned, it will match with that of the BMW X5. Part of the standard kit will be launch control function, BMW LaserLight, ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, electrically-adjustable seats, two 12.3-inch displays (one for the instrument cluster and one for infotainment purposes), surround-view using 360-degree cameras and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. In the safety department, gizmos such as Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control, Attentiveness Assistant, Active Park Distance Control, Hill Descent Control and electric parking brake.

In India, the BMW X6 will rival the recently launched Audi Q8 and the upcoming, all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. If you had to choose between those models, which one would it be?
