Saar: It becomes the third and only variant in the X3’s India lineup to come with a petrol engine.

Always liked the all-new BMW X3, which the company launched in India in April 2018, but didn’t want to go for a diesel engine? Well, good news. The Bavarians have now launched a petrol-powered variant of its mid-size SUV. It is badged as xDrive30i and priced at Rs 56.90 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is available in only one trim-level, which gets all the bells and whistles.

The BMW X3 xDrive30i becomes the most expensive variant available on sale in India. The only other variant available in India is the xDrive20d, which is offered in two trim levels – Expedition and Luxury Line. While the former is priced at Rs 49.99 lakh, the latter wears a price tag of Rs 56.70 lakh (both prices ex-showroom India).

So, what powers the BMW X3 xDrive30i? It is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mill that puts out 252PS of power and 350Nm of torque. BMW fanatics will immediately tell you that it is the same engine that also does duty in BMW 3 and 5 Series. In the X3, the engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system. BMW claims that this variant of the X3 can complete the nought to 100kmph sprint in just 6.3 seconds.

It will be powered by a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo petrol engine producing 360PS/500Nm enabling the people carrier to reach 100kmph from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds. The other badge that expected to come to our shores is the xDrive30d. That houses a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that has 265PS/620Nm on tap with a claimed 0-100kmph time of 5.8 seconds.

Apart from the Mercedes-Benz GLC, the BMW X3 takes on the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport in India.
