Saar: Available in a single trim, xLine, it is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 192PS/280Nm on tap.

The Indian arm of the German carmaker BMW has introduced a petrol-powered variant of the compact premium SUV – the X1. Tagged as the sDrive20i, it is priced at Rs 37.50 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is the first petrol-fed variant that the current-gen BMW X1 has received in India. The new variant goes on sale in just one trim – xLine.

Before we get to the list of goodies, let’s acquaint ourselves with the powertrain. Under the bonnet of the BMW X1 sDrive20i lives a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 192PS of power and 280Nm of torque. The oomph is harnessed by a 7-speed automatic transmission which routes the power to the front wheels only. BMW claims that the setup is enough for the X1 sDrive20i to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 7.6 seconds.

In terms of features, you get automatic headlamps and wipers, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs with anti-dazzle and parking function, 40:20:40 split rear seat, ambient lighting and automatic start/stop function. If all that is a bit poor for your liking, you also get a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, park distance control, rear view camera, 6 airbags, 18-inch alloy wheels and tyre pressure indicator. In the xLine trim, the BMW X1 sDrive20i is available with four exterior colour options – Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mediterranean Blue and Sparkling Brown.

The new variant takes the variant-count of the BMW X1 up to five. The compact SUV also come in sDrive20d Expedition, sDrive20d xLine, sDrive20d M Sport and xDrive20d M Sport. They are priced at Rs 34.50 lakh, Rs 38.50 lakh, Rs 41.50 lakh and Rs 44.50 lakh respectively. It was in July this year when BMW India silently introduced the sDrive20d M Sport variant for the X1. As far as the new variant is concerned, it goes up against the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 Sport and the Audi Q3 30TFSI.
