Saar: The standout feature is, of course, the camera-display replacements for traditional outer rear view mirrors.

Audi, like its parent company Volkswagen Group, has been under scrutiny for the diesel scandal that surfaced a while back. Because of that, Audi had to take some harsh decisions. It had to replace Rupert Stadler, the former CEO who is currently in custody for questioning, with an interim head honcho. Additionally, it had to indefinitely postpone the Summit, which was originally scheduled for August 30, 2018. It was there that Audi had planned to unveil the production-ready iteration of its first-ever EV (electric vehicle) – the e-Tron. Since Audi has some time to kill before it reveals the e-Tron to the world, it has gone ahead and shared some pictures of the interiors.

Just one glance at the dashboard and you’ll notice that Audi has tried to make it look and feel a bit more futuristic. It is a blend of many materials, including a fair use of metal inserts. The centre console is reminiscent of what we’ve come to expect from Audis of late, with two touchscreen displays controlling everything. Behind the macho steering wheel, is Audi’s Virtual Cockpit which has been reprogrammed to cater to the pure-electric nature of the vehicle. The AC vents are sleek and blend quite well with the angular layout of the dashboard.

The standout feature of the interior is, of course, the camera-display replacements for the traditional outer rear view mirrors (ORVMs). The door-mounted screens, which sit right above the lock-unlock buttons, have been designed to look like conventional ORVMs. They get their feed from the cameras mounted at the A-pillar, where you’d normally find the traditional rear-facing mirrors. However, this setup will not be offered in all the markets and won’t come as part of the standard kit. Depending on which market allows the use of cameras instead of ORVMs, Audi will offer them as optional extras. That’s quite typical of Audi.

At the rear, there is space meant for three passengers. The rear AC vents have their own, touch-sensitive control device and there’s also a power outlet right beneath it. Apart from the AC vents between the front two seats, there are a couple more – one each on both rear door pillars. Other features inside the cabin include a 16-speaker, 705-watt Bang and Olufsen 3D sound system and an optional ambient lighting package.

Regarding the powertrain, Audi has already revealed quite a lot. As far as the world premiere is concerned, that should happen in the month of September this year. Audi aims to put the e-Tron on sale as originally scheduled. That means it would hit showrooms in several European markets before the end of this year.
