Saar: With bookings set to commence from October 10, it is slated to launch in India on October 23, 2018.

Are you planning to purchase a small hatchback for your family or maybe just for yourself? Then you should definitely look at this. The car right here is the all-new Hyundai Santro. It has been officially unveiled today and is slated to launch in India on October 23, 2018. The South Korean carmaker ran a name-keeping campaign for this hatchback, which began in the month of August this year by the name NaamKaran. Last month, the carmaker gave us an update that nearly 50 per cent of people who suggested a name for the car wanted Hyundai to reincarnate the original tallboy nameplate – Santro.

As you can see, the new Santro is a far cry from the model that took the moniker out of production a few years ago. Hyundai claims that the new model’s design theme is based on “Rhythmical Tension”. The front cascading grille with chrome surround falls right in line with Hyundai’s current design language. While the rear of the car hasn’t been shown yet, it will closely resemble that of the Hyundai Grand i10.

The new Hyundai Santro is underpinned by a new platform. In its DNA lies 63 per cent advanced high strength steel plus high strength steel. This has helped, Hyundai claims, in achieving prominent static and dynamic stiffness with improved structural connectivity. The safety quotient has been accentuated with a driver’s airbag and ABD with EBD as standard across the range.

In terms of features, the new Hyundai Santro will get a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link support, voice recognition, rear parking camera, segment-first rear AC vents and Hyundai’s ‘Eco Coating Technology’ that prevents unpleasant odour to develop in the AC evaporator by degrading the micro-organisms.

Powering the new Hyundai Santro will be a 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that will pump out 69PS/99Nm. The carmaker will also offer a factory-fitted CNG kit with the same engine, with power and torque figures rated at 59PS/84Nm. Mileage figures on petrol and CNG are 20.3kmpl and 30.5 km/kg respectively. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or, for the first time in a Hyundai, an AMT (automated manual transmission).

As standard, the new Santro will come with 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty and 3 years of roadside assistance. Hyundai will start accepting pre-bookings, which are 100 per cent online, from October 10, 2018, to October 22, 2018. The minimum booking amount for the first 50,000 customers is Rs 11,000.
