When you hear the word ‘Aura’, what is it that first strikes your mind? Most might say that Aura is just another word for ambience or atmosphere. Even Google says so! But in Hyundai India’s world, Aura is an upcoming model. The name, as per the carmaker, “is inspired by the ‘Vibrance of Positivity’ and ‘Spirit to go the distance’.” It further adds that the car “is cautiously crafted to deliver ‘Superior than the most’ to the aspirational Indian customers.”

Pulling away from the marketing jibber-jabber, the Hyundai Aura will essentially be a compact sedan. That’s all we know for a fact so far. However, if we take a stroll down ‘Speculation Street’, there are some dots that could join together. The Aura will sit below the Verna in the Indian market. What about the Xcent? Well, here things get a bit tricky. Hyundai might sack the Xcent and handover the charge to the Aura. Or, Hyundai might keep the Xcent and place the Aura between it and the Verna. The latter of the two seems more likely to unfold.

What does that mean? In simple words, the Aura will do to the Xcent what the Nios did to the Grand i10. The Aura is likely to share most of its package with the Grand i10 Nios. It will be a sub-4 metre sedan but a bit more premium than the Xcent. Eventually, the Xcent’s portfolio will be stripped down to reduce cannibalisation between them. As mentioned above, the Aura will carry the same set of features as the Nios. And the same holds for powertrain options as well. Both the 1.2-litre diesel and the 1.2 petrol (BS6-ready) mills will offer the same power and torque. The mileage, however, will not be as high as the Nios for apparent reasons.
