Saar: The Japanese premium carmaker has reportedly registered ‘LQ’ as a trademark in the USA.

Presently, Lexus makes coupes, sedans, SUVs and performance cars for its loyalists. With the Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept, which was unveiled in January this year, those categories potentially expanded with the addition of crossovers. All that was revealed by the carmaker itself. But what it didn’t reveal and folks over at Kaizen Factor has managed to dig out, is what will be the nomenclature for the new category of vehicles. Like the sedans, SUVs and coupes have their names with something- followed by S, X and C respectively, the production-spec of the LF-1 Limitless Concept will be, in all probability, known as the LQ. The report suggests that on May 7, 2018, Lexus registered the ‘LQ’ nameplate in the USA.

Back in January, Lexus revealed that the LF-1 Limitless Concept could be powered by a fuel-cell, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline or even all-electric powerplant. Rumour has it that the production-spec of the LF-1 Limitless Concept could be revealed during next year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Other studies also reveal that at times carmakers even skip using the registered trademarks and end up calling their new vehicles something else. Whether the LF-1 Limitless Concept have the same fate in its official name christening? Only time will tell.

As has been the case with all concept cars, most of the features showcased in the Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept will not make into the production model. However, the overall silhouette is expected to remain quite similar to the concept. That means it is likely to be over 5-metres in length, nearly 2-metres in width and approx 1.6 metres in height. The wheelbase is expected to nudge the 3-metre mark and that means its luxury aura will surely contain the commodious factor. In case of an all-electric powertrain, the cabin space will surely get a further bump in numbers.

As for the name, it is only the ‘Q’ tag that’s confusing. Is Lexus trying to urbanise its dictionary and wants us to start spelling its crossovers as ‘Qrossovers’? Since ideal conditions of naming its range of crossovers do not exist anymore, thanks to coupes (C) and SUVs (X) as mentioned above, that is the only remotely relatable explanation to it. Confused? Don’t be! Instead, enjoy the video of the Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept.
