By now you probably know that BMW will launch the 3 Series Gran Limousine in India on January 21, 2020. You probably didn’t know that from January 11, official bookings for the upcoming four-door saloon will open. The minimum token amount will be Rs 50,000, and bookings will only happen via BMW India’s online portal.

As an early-bird offer, the German brand is offering a complimentary rear-seat Comfort Package for the first 50 bookings done before noon on the launch date. BMW says that the package amounts to Rs 1 lakh. The add-on will bring an iPad, an iPad holder and a coat hanger.

Okay, over to some more serious stuff. The 3 Series Gran Limousine is essentially the standard 3 Series with a longer wheelbase. That helps in offering more room inside the cabin. BMW will offer the stretched sedan in Luxury Line, and M Sport trim levels. There will be four metallic colour options – Carbon Black, Cashmere Silver, Melbourne Red and Mineral White. Also, the Luxury Line variants will come with 17-inch alloys, whereas the M Sport will flaunt 18-inch wheels.

Other confirmed details include two leather ‘Vernasca’ upholstery options – Oyster with black and Cognac with black. The trim, the M Sport derivatives will pack fine-wood inserts finished in high-gloss grey-brown, while the Luxury Line variants will adorn open-pored oak grain panels. In terms of features, expect the 3 Series Gran Limousine to offer the same set as the standard 3 Series. That means stuff like three-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, support for Apple CarPlay, panoramic sunroof and wireless mobile charging.

Even the powertrains are expected to be shared between the two siblings. So, petrol-powered versions will come with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing 255bhp/400Nm, whereas the diesel ones will have 188bhp/400Nm from the same-sized engine. An 8-speed automatic will handle transmission duties and feed the oomph to the rear wheels.

The extension of the 3 Series range will help BMW compete more authoritatively in the executive saloon space. The list of rivals includes the recently launched Audi A4 facelift, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE and the upcoming Volvo S60.
