In the past three years, Volvo Cars has established robust roots in India, gained market share and returned earnings to the mothership. No points for guessing – it was Charles Frump who led this transformation for the brand in one of the most promising automobile markets in the world. Under his supervision, Volvo Cars India also began local assembly of models. That was an essential element for the carmaker to compete even more fiercely with rivals.

Come March 1, 2021, the Indian arm of the Swedish carmaker will have a new managing director. His name is Jyoti Malhotra, and he will leave his post of Director – Sales & Marketing to take over the responsibilities from Charles Frump. The latter has been assigned a global assignment. Jyoti has over 24 years of work experience in the automobile industry. In the past, he’s held national, regional and local positions in brands such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Fiat Auto India.

Here’s what Charles Frump said in an official release:

India is one of the most dynamic automobile markets in the world and it has been an honour to be a part of the same for over three years now. My journey during this time has been very exciting. We expanded our footprint in India, initiated customer focused programs, rolled out our product facility and made the luxury car ownership experience extremely convenient and simple. At present, we are at a critical juncture in the Indian market where the industry is moving towards a significant transformation to electric mobility and I am confident Jyoti will lead the company through this phase in an extremely seamless manner. And I feel extremely proud to announce Jyoti as the first Indian to head the company in India.

Jyoti added his comments on this development. He said:

It is indeed a challenge to take over from Charles who was instrumental in growing the company to its present level. These are exciting times with the Indian automobile sector being on the phase of transition to the Electric vehicle era. Volvo India is gearing up for the same and I look forward to this major shift in our company’s offerings. I thank Charles for his contributions towards the development of Volvo Car brand in India and I wish him success in his future endeavours.

Under Jyoti’s leadership, Volvo Cars India will have two product-related events very soon. After commencing the deliveries of the all-new Volvo S60 sedan in March 2021, the brand will then shift focus on introducing its first all-electric model – the XC40 Recharge.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
