A few weeks ago, Toyota Kirloskar Motor triggered a voluntary recall for 6,481 units of the Glanza manufactured between April 2, 2019, and October 6, 2019. The company said that it wants to check for a possible problem with the fuel pump motor. Now, it has extended the recall of the same car by an additional 3,093 units, for the same issue. Simple math reveals that the service campaign now concerns 9,574 units. Toyota says that it ran an investigation which resulted in the addition of the second lot.

Mind you, Toyota’s recall number is still about 12.2 per cent of the count of Balenos Maruti Suzuki has recalled for the fuel hose problem. But then, Toyota started manufacturing the rebadged version of the Baleno long after Maruti Suzuki introduced its premium hatchback. Presently, both models are petrol-only. But, Maruti Suzuki sold the Baleno with the FIAT-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine as well.

Toyota has confirmed that the entire process of investigating and rectification will incur zero costs to the customer. The authorised dealers will get in touch with the owners of possibly affected cars to fix an appointment at the earliest. If you’re a Glanza owner and you don’t want to wait for a phone call/email, you can get in touch with Toyota’s call centre or the nearest dealer to get a confirmation on whether or not your car is part of the recall.

Later this month, Toyota will unveil and, in all probability, start accepting bookings for a new model. Dubbed as the Urban Cruiser, it is essentially a rebadged and minutely restyled version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The subcompact SUV will come with a mildly-hybridised 1.5-litre petrol engine. That’s the same unit that also powers a range of Maruti Suzukis, including the Ciaz, XL6, Ertiga and the upcoming BS6-compliant S-Cross.
