Here it is! The refreshed Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace has finally shed its cover. As expected, it carries forward the tweaked design that we saw with the Tiguan facelift last year. Also, the new Tiguan Allspace packs more features and is a bit longer than before. Depending on the market, it will be offered as a five-seater as standard, with a seven-seat layout being an option. In India, however, it will arrive in a three-row form as standard.

The face is all new. There’s a set of sleeker headlamps that, for the first time, can be equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix technology. The SUV also get the “sweeping” indicator function, new VW logo, a more prominent grille, new front bumper and new wheels. Flanking the VW logo are two light strips that ride on the grille slats. As a result of those changes at the front, the Tiguan Allspace has grown 22mm in length.

Those opting for a five-seater version will have luggage capacity ranging between 760 litres and 1,920 litres. In the seven-seater form, where the last row of seats fold down to make a flat floor, the boot space varies between 700 litres and 1,755 litres. Volkswagen will offer the Tiguan Allspace with three TSI and two TDI engines. The choice will vary depending on the market. In India, however, it will arrive with a single powertrain – a 2.0-litre TSI mated to a 7-speed DSG and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. That’s the same that also does duty in the Skoda Superb, Audi A4 and the Audi Q2.

The SUV packs a new infotainment system that offers an array of connected-car features. An embedded eSIM keeps the car connected to the internet and offers music streaming and cloud-based personalisation via Volkswagen ID. The Tiguan Allspace also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster and touch panels and sliders in place of physical knobs and buttons.

Volkswagen will commence pre-sales of the new Tiguan Allspace in a few weeks in Germany. Eventually, it will arrive in India as well. How do you like it?
