In was back in September last year when Toyota introduced the Fortuner TRD Celebratory Edition. In case you missed out on buying one, don’t worry as the company has reintroduced it in an upgraded avatar. This time around Toyota has named it the Fortuner TRD. Unlike the previous one, the reincarnated version has nothing to celebrate! Another difference is that you can now opt for the sporty makeover in two variants – 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT. The former gets a price tag of Rs 34.98 lakh, whereas the latter costs Rs 36.88 lakh.

Compare those price tags with the standard variants, and a difference of Rs 2.45 lakh pops up on the plus side. So, what do you get for the extra amount? On the outside, it is the same story as before. The white body colour mated to a black roof is the only option. And, apart from a couple of TRD badges and black 18-inch alloy wheels, the SUV boasts aggressive-looking bumpers at either end and faux skid plates. Even on the inside, the dual-tone (black-and-maroon) upholstery remains.

That’s where the similarity ends because the revamped Fortuner TRD comes packaged with a range of additional gizmos. With Toyota’s ‘Special Technology Package’, the limited-edition version gets a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, an air purifier, tyre pressure monitor, door-mounted wireless mobile charger for rear-seat occupants, auto-folding ORVMs, a dash cam and puddle lamps with Fortuner lettering. The rest of the kit remains identical to the standard variants.

The only engine-transmission option available is the 2.8-litre, turbo-diesel generating 174bhp/450Nm, while a 6-speed automatic handling transmission duties. The only difference between the two TRD variants is the availability of a four-wheel-drive system. All-in-all, buying the Fortuner TRD makes more sense now since it justifies the price difference better. And don’t forget that it is a limited-edition project, which brings the exclusivity factor in the equation as well.
