The Tiago has been doing pretty well for Tata Motors. Not only does it flaunt the segment-best 4 start Global NCAP safety rating, but it also offers a practical, pocket-friendly package. The hatchback has just received a new variant, and that wears the XTA badge at the rear. It costs Rs 5.995 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. More importantly, however, the latest derivative makes an automatic Tiago more affordable.

Compared to XZA, XZA+ and XZA+ Dual Tone variants, the Tiago XTA costs Rs 47,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 85,000 less, respectively. As you’d expect, the newly-introduced variant packs the same set of features as the XT. That includes a ConnectNext infotainment system mated to a 4-speaker sound system, multifunction steering wheel, power windows (front and rear), remote keyless entry, power-adjustable ORVMs, 14-inch wheels with full wheel covers and rear parking sensors with display.

In the Tiago XTA, a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 84bhp/113Nm, comes mated to a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Those who don’t want a two-pedal setup can opt for variants with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Tata Motors offers the Tiago in six colours – Red, White, Yellow, Silver, Blue and Grey. One can even opt for a blacked-out roof with all those shades. As for the standard warranty, that’s still 2 years/75,000km.

With the addition of the XTA variant, Tiago now has four automatic derivatives in its portfolio. That should help widen the car’s appeal and lure more customers. In India, the Tiago falls in the same segment as the Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and three Maruti Suzuki models – Celerio, WagonR, S-Presso. In January 2021, Tata Motors introduced the Tiago Limited Edition. Available only with a manual transmission, it slots between the XT and the XZ variants. Some of the highlights include 14-inch black alloy wheels, a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rear parcel tray.
