Earlier this year, before the whole world went under lockdown, Skoda confirmed the name of its first, all-electric SUV. You’ll agree that the name – Enyaq – isn’t the easiest out there to pronounce correctly in the first go. Skoda’s idiosyncrasy for christening SUVs forced out such a word. Anyway, the EV is incredibly vital for the Czech brand. And, it will break cover on September 1, 2020. The unveiling event will take place in Prague.

To address the unrest in pedantic minds, Skoda actually calls the EV as Enyaq iV. The company denotes all types of electrified models with the ‘iV’ mark. Unlike others, however, the Enyaq iV has Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) platform in the equation. The same architecture will also do duty in over ten models under Skoda’s ‘iV’ sub-brand by 2022-end.

Skoda wanted to create an EV which could cater to a broad audience. That’s why the Enyaq iV will have options in battery size, drivetrain, power and range. Details regarding those came into light in May this year. Depending on the requirement, customers could choose between rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations. Battery sizes will range from 55 to 82 kWh (52 to 77 kWh usable), whereas the power numbers will vary between 146bhp and 302bhp. Travel range on a single charge? That will depend on the variant chosen and will hover between 340km and 500km.

The most powerful variant, which will boast the vRS tag, will have enough oomph to complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.2 seconds. Top speed – 180kmph. For battery charging, customers will have the option for both slow (AC) and fast electricity (DC) feeds. In ideal conditions, the quickest recharging option (with 125kW of DC feed) could replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 40 minutes. Obviously, the charging time will depend on the size of the battery as well.

In the features department, the Enyaq iV will offer a 13.0-inch, free-standing infotainment system, a head-up display with augmented reality and a permanent internet connection. As you’d expect, other details are still under wraps. Skoda will put the Enyaq iV in production by the end of 2020, and it should reach showrooms in Europe early next year.
