The Innova range in India isn’t exactly short. You’ve got four variants of the Innova Touring Sport, and eighteen derivatives of the Innova Crysta. Simple math reveals that there are 22 iterations of the three-row MPV. Now, we have the 23rd one – the Innova Crysta Leadership Edition. Introduced quietly and based on the diesel VX MT seven-seater configuration, Toyota has priced it at Rs 21.21 lakh. That makes it Rs 62,000 dearer than the regular Innova Crysta VX MT 7 Seater, and Rs 76,000 less expensive than the similarly specced Innova Touring Sport.

So, how’s the newly introduced version different to the regular Innova Crysta in VX form? On the outside, it boasts a blacked-out roof, rear spoiler and alloy wheels, protective cladding on the wheel arches, side skirts and chrome garnish on grille surround. Indoors, Toyota has opted for an all-black theme. Even the roofline is black. Also, there are various “Leadership Edition” badges inside and out. Toyota is offering the limited-edition Innova Crysta with only the BS6-compliant 2.4-litre diesel engine. It produces 148bhp/353Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

In all fairness, the Innova Crysta Leadership Edition is quite closely related to the Innova Touring Sport. The most glaring difference between the two is the price. As far as the list of features is concerned, the silently launched derivative packs a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation, smart entry system, cruise control, push-button start, auto-levelling headlamps and three airbags. For that extra something, Toyota has added a 360-degree view monitor and auto-folding ORVMs to the Leadership Edition.

The Leadership Edition may denote a particular milestone. Possibly, it celebrates the fact that the Innova brand has been the leader in its segment for over a decade. Don’t be surprised to see an official announcement for this limited-edition in a few days.
